Supporting Female Seafarers

Only 2% of seafarers around the world are women, and they face unique challenges while working at sea, including but not limited to workplace discrimination, sexual harassment and assault, and a lack of sanitary product provisions.

The Seattle Seafarers Center serves all seafarers regardless of gender identity or expression, and we are especially committed to supporting female seafarers in the difficulties they may face onboard ships.

You can help.

Our Center is stocked with a range of free sanitary products and other toiletries for women. We are always looking for more in-kind donations, such as:

  • Disposable sanitary pads

  • Tampons

  • Opaque disposal bags for sanitary products

  • Menstrual cups

  • Period underwear

  • Reusable sanitary pads

  • Bottles of Ibuprofen or Tylenol

  • Face wash

  • Facial masks (skin care)

  • Body / face lotion

Do you sew?

You can sew reusable cloth pads or sanitary pad pouches which we can include in our ditty bag care packages for women.
