Ditty Bag Season is Upon Us!

It is Fall once again, and we are beginning to collect hand-knit hats, sewn drawstring bags, and full-size toiletries for our annual Ditty Bag Program. Every year, the Seattle Seafarers Center provides over 1,000 "ditty bag" gifts stuffed with basic personal necessities to merchant seafarers. These bags are one way we give thanks for these essential and often hidden workers, and help seafarers celebrate the holidays while they are far from home. Help make a seafarer's Christmas by providing them with a ditty bag to say thank you!

There are lots of ways to participate. You can make drawstring bags or knit hats, or you can purchase basic supplies (e.g. shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste) and drop those off at the Center. You can also make a financial gift that will be used to purchase more supplies for ditty bags. For more information see our ditty bag page, or contact the Seattle Seafarers Center at

Finally, don't forget to join us on Saturday, November 18 from 10am-noon for our annual Ditty Bag Stuffing Party at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in West Seattle! During the event, we'll stuff ditty bags, share stories about seafarers ministry, and bless

the bags to be given away. For more information, see Ditty Bag Day.
